Naindeep Singh, Jakara Movement

Last year, I was honored to receive The James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award for the work of my organization. Anchored in the Central Valley, Jakara Movement mobilizes Punjabi Sikh youth and their parents to engage in advocacy and civic engagement campaigns and connect community members to vital resources.

Receiving a Leadership Award has been a transformative experience for us. Not only did the financial support allow us to scale our programs and services, but the increased recognition and visibility helped us to attract new partners and supporters. Additionally, being part of the Leadership Awards community has provided me with valuable new relationships and networking opportunities with fellow alumni such as Dora Westerlund of Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation and Phoebe Seaton and Veronica Garibay of Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability.

I am grateful for the support we’ve received through this award and believe that it has the potential to significantly benefit other California leaders. If you know someone who is making a difference — whether they work in the arts, community development, education, social justice, or any other area — I encourage you nominate them for a 2024 Leadership Award. There is so much important work being done by grassroots leaders and organizations outside of the spotlight who deserve to be honored and elevated. This is an opportunity to celebrate their efforts, and to help them take their work to the next level.

Nominations for the 2024 Leadership Awards are open now through April 27. You can learn more about the Awards and the nomination process by visiting the Leadership Awards website.

Thank you for considering this important opportunity to honor an individual or pair of leaders in your community.

Sincerely,

Naindeep Singh
